The Dothan MSA Composite Cost-of-Living Index is 13 percent below the national average.
The Council for Community and Economic Research 2024 First Quarter Quarter Cost of Living Index, released in May 2024, indicates the Dothan Metropolitan Statistical Area registered a composite index of 87.0.
With the national composite of 100, we are 13 percent less than the national index. Within the state, eight urban areas reported for the survey, with the lowest composite index being Florence, AL Metro at 83.9. Dothan had the lowest indices for Utilities index at 80.4.
Dothan is consistently one of the lowest cost-of-living locations in Alabama. The composite index is derived from the weighted values of Groceries, Housing, Utilities, Transportation, Health Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services. The Cost of Living index does not consider local or state tax rates, which are some of the lowest in the country.
