Cost of Living

 

The Dothan MSA Composite Cost-of-Living Index is 7.7 percent below the national average.

The Council for Community and Economic Research 2023 First Quarter Quarter Cost of Living Index, released in May 2023, indicates the Dothan Metropolitan Statistical Area registered a composite index of 89.9.

With the national composite of 100, we are 10.1 percent less than the national index. Within the state, eight urban areas reported for the survey, with the lowest composite index being Decatur AL Metro at 86.3. Dothan had the lowest indices for Utilities index at 83.3.

Dothan is consistently one of the lowest cost-of-living locations in Alabama. The composite index is derived from the weighted values of Groceries, Housing, Utilities, Transportation, Health Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services. The Cost of Living index does not consider local or state tax rates, which are some of the lowest in the country.
