History of the Chamber
The Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1919.
In his book, Dothan, A Pictorial History, author Wendell Stepp notes that in the early 1930s, the Chamber was little more than an office to establish prices for cotton and other produce.
A new era dawned for the Chamber in 1934 when Harry Hall, president of the Rotary Club, and Theodore Jackson, president of the Kiwanis Club formed a joint committee from the two clubs. Two goals emerged: establish a meaningful chamber of commerce and cut the weeds consuming downtown. The modernized Chamber of Commerce made its first home on the second floor of City Hall (Dothan Opera House) at 115 N. St. Andrews Street. Since then the DACC has moved several times:
1954-1967 - 130 North Oates Street
1967-1989 - 300 North Foster Street
1989-2003 - 400 Honeysuckle Road
2003-Present - 102 Jamestown Boulevard
As of July 1, 2003, 102 Jamestown Boulevard became the permanent home of the Dothan Area Chamber
of Commerce.
