Parade Of Homes 2008
Since the mid-sixties, the Home Builders Association of Dothan and the Wiregrass have offered a wide selection of houses to fit the taste and needs of families in the Wiregrass area.
On May 16, the opening of the Parade of Homes will take place at 11:00 a.m. at 105 Hedgerose Lane in Grove Park. The public is invited to attend. Approximately 60 houses will be open from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16; from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17; and from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on May 18. |

Food For Fines
Location: Houston Love Memorial Library
Houston Love Memorial Library will sponsor the first “Food for Fines” campaign to benefit the Wiregrass Area United Way Food Bank during the week of May 19-23. Library patrons will be able to bring in non-perishable food items Monday-Friday to get “debt forgiveness” for their overdue library books. For every food item donated, the library staff will deduct $1 from that person’s overdue book fines. The offer does not apply to lost or damaged library items. The Food Bank is need of items such as canned vegetables, canned meats, rice, pasta and peanut butter. |

7th Annual Drug Abuse Prevention Conference
Location: Troy University's Sony Hall
Presented by the Dothan-Houston County Substance Abuse Partnership and Troy University’s Continuing Education Center the conference is open to the public and CEU/ILC’s are available for teachers, nurses, counselors and social workers. Lunch will also be provided to participants. The conference fee is $50 and a door prize is required.
There are also a limited number of spaces available for informational booths. Any area agency, business or professional wishing to reserve a booth should call (334) 983-0005 by 12:00 noon on May 9. Checks for the conference should be made payable to DHCSAP and mailed to the Partnership. Vendors may set up their booths after 7:00 a.m. on May 20. Just the Facts - Straight Talk About Marriage, a project of The Hive Creative Group, will offer an "Active Marriage & Best Practices for Healthy Relationship" workshop on May 28-29, starting at 9:00 a.m. each day. This two-day workshop is offered at no cost and upon completion of training, participants receive certification enabling them to facilitate these same workshops in their own communities. A decision to enroll in these seminars offers an opportunity to learn practical skills for enriching extraordinary relationships. The Instructor is Kelly Simpson, MA Psychology.
