  “Looking Back at Gee’s Bend: The Photographs of John Reese”
Location: Troy University, Dothan Campus, Gallery Hall, Library/Technology Building, 500 University Drive, Dothan
An exhibit of photographs chronicling life in the rural community of Gee’s Bend will be on display at Troy University’s Dothan Campus through April 7. “Looking Back at Gee’s Bend: The Photographs of John Reese” consists of 40 black-and-white photographs taken during the late 1970s and early 80s that depict life in the isolated community in Alabama’s Black Belt region. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The traveling exhibit is part of the Birmingham Public Library Department of Archives and Manuscripts.

The Wiregrass Area United Way Food Bank is encouraging donors to make contributions during the months of March and April so the food bank can use those pledges to receive a gift from the Feinstein Foundation.
The Feinstein Foundation, a national non-profit started by Alan Shawn Feinstein in 1991, will distribute $1 million among food banks in the United States. Food Banks that receive more local donations before the May 1 deadline by using the challenge have an opportunity to receive a share of those funds.   "Alzheimer's the Long Goodbye" Program

SouthernCare will present the program "Alzheimer's the Long Goodbye." Presented by Rebecca Denny, RN, this program is being offered at no charge and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and at the end of day, participants will be able to discuss the different types of dementia, Alzheimer's brain pathology, advances in research and brain imaging, the FAST scale and pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments.   2nd Annual Conference for Parents and Teachers of Young, High-Ability Students
Location: Troy University, Dothan Campus, Library/Technology Building, Michelin Room, 500 University Drive, Dothan
The second annual conference for parents and teachers of young, high-ability students will be held at Troy University’s Dothan Campus on Saturday, March 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. inside the Michelin Room in the Library/Technology Building. The free event is sponsored by the College of Education and is aimed at helping parents and teachers better meet the needs of gifted students in kindergarten through second grade. The conference presenters will provide information on the recommended books, games, toys and activities that parents can use at home and ways that teachers can easily differentiate instruction to extend and enrich the curriculum for high-ability students. The conference is offered at no cost to participants, but seating is limited. Pre-registration is required and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
