Purpose
The Alliance was formed to provide a means for employers to
meet training needs locally, in a cost effective manner. Similar
training needs often exist at several businesses and industries within
a community or region. The Alliance provides a mechanism for business
and industry to express these needs to a central body for consolidation
and action planning. In our case, this central body is the consortium
of educational partners in the region. The education partners have
developed a standardized process of analyzing the combined resources of
the several institutions and the need of business /industry to develop,
schedule, and deliver training, at a time, place, and cost that allows
the greatest economy of scale and convenience to the employers.
Organization
The Wiregrass Industry/Education Alliance serves the
geographical area of: Barbour, Coffee, Dale, Geneva , Houston , and
Henry counties . The Alliance is an informal organization created for
the sole purpose of assisting business and industry in meeting their
generic and specific training needs at minimal cost in dollars,
transportation, and time. At the core of the Alliance are the
post-secondary educational institutions of the Wiregrass; the other
meeting members are area Chambers of Commerce and interested employers.
Members meet regularly at meetings called by the Chairperson (A
volunteer from the business/industry sector) to discuss on-going
activity and new opportunities.
