Background
EPA is a regulatory agency created to protect and enhance the
environment under the laws enacted by Congress. It is the EPA's responsibility
to control and abate pollution in the areas of air, water, pesticides, solid
waste, and radiation and toxic substances. The EPA is mandated to mount an
integrated, coordinated attack on environmental pollution in cooperation with
state and local governments.
